Précédemment, elle a obtenu sa licence en relations internationales à l'Université de Trieste (Italie) en 2011 et son master à l'École des Affaires Internationales de Sciences Po - Paris en 2013. Pendant son parcours doctoral, elle a obtenu une bourse pour une période comme Visiting Scholar au Center for the Study of Law & Society de UC Berkeley. 

Elle est actuellement chercheuse postdoctorale au Collegium Helveticum (École polytechnique fédérale de Zurich) depuis le 1er septembre 2022 jusqu'au 30 juin 2023 dans le cadre du projet "Representing the Nonhuman: The Law Beyond Linear Time and the Individual Subject".

Résumé :

During her fellowship at the Collegium, Veronica explores ways to represent the interests of nonhuman entities that both already exist or will exist in the future. Besides investigating recent advancements in constitutions and jurisprudence that give legal status to the natural world, she is interested in the invention of legal techniques that challenge the linear notion of time and the individual subject at the core of modern law. Veronica intends to approach this endeavor in two steps. First, she focuses on two concepts that are already part of the sociology of law debate and imply an understanding of time that goes beyond the “here-and-now” logic of Western legal systems, namely future generations and an extended causality principle. Second, she seeks to address other areas where temporality and subjectivity have been radically rethought in recent years, away from paradigms of linearity and individuality, such as in anthropology and art practice. While anthropological studies of late capitalism suggest that a politics of more-than-human entanglements is necessary to live in capitalist ruins, as Anna Tsing puts it, contemporary artwork – ranging from Kiki Smith in sculpture to William Basinski in music – are succeeding in rejecting the dominant notion of time and subject in favor of nonlinear temporalities and composite subjects. Bringing these visions into dialogue with lawmaking is the challenge of her project.

Champs de recherche

Ses champs de recherche vont de la philosophie politique et la théorie critique du droit aux social movements studies et les études urbains. Sa recherche doctorale a concerné les pratiques émergentes des communs en Europe du sud et s'est concentré sur les initiatives par le bas des mouvements urbains essayant de reconstruire le welfare après la crise économique de 2008. Ce travail a investigué comment les mouvements sont en train de reconfigurer la solidarité comme principe politique radical en opposition aux politiques d'austérité. Une attention a été consacrée à l'interaction des communs avec le droit, et en particulier à l'usage stratégique des instruments juridiques par les mouvements afin de consolider leurs réclamations et d'imaginer des solutions à la crise de représentation politique.

Elle a soutenu sa thèse intitulée "Comment les communs sont devenus gouvernement : mobilisations citoyennes et cooptation institutionnelle à Palerme (Sicile)" le 18 octobre, sous la direction de Paolo Napoli (LIER-FYT).

Après avoir obtenu le titre de docteur, Veronica conduit une recherche interdisciplinaire qui combine l'approche de la philosophie politique avec l'étude ethnographique des transformations des sociétés de l'Europe du Sud dans le capitalisme contemporain. Elle s'intéresse particulièrement à la production et reproduction de cette région comme marge culturel et politique de la modernité occidentale.

Her research interests range from political philosophy and critical legal theory to social movements studies and urban studies. Her PhD research dealt with emerging practices of commons in Southern Europe, focusing on grassroots initiatives of urban movements aimed at restructuring welfare after the 2008 economic crisis. This work investigates how movements are reconfiguring solidarity as a radical political principle in opposition to austerity politics. Special attention is devoted to the interaction of commons with the law, and in particular to the movements’ strategic use of legal tools to consolidate their claims and to imagine solutions to the crisis of political representation.

After obtaining her PhD, Veronica conducts interdisciplinary research combining the perspective of political philosophy on the transformations of Southern European economies and societies in late capitalism. She is particularly interested in the production and reproduction of this region as cultural and political margin of Western modernity.
